What is IIT Jam ?

IIT JAM is an exam that is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis for admission to their joint M.Sc. programs. JAM stands for Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.

Candidates must score well in the IIT JAM exam to get admission into the IITs. The IITs use the marks scored in the exam to prepare a merit list. Candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of their marks are then called for counselling.

The counselling process includes an interview and a group discussion. Candidates who clear these rounds are finally offered admission to the IITs.

IIT Jam Exam Overview

This year IIT Jam examination is managing by IIT Guwahati. They released a notification for the same on their website. Application form will be available on the website on september 7, 2022 and the last date to fill the application form on October 11, 2022.

IIT JAM examination is conducting once  a year . This year it will be on February 12, 2023. The exam is a online computer based test and will happen on two slots on the same day.  There are a total of seven papers in the exam, namely, Economics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Mathematical StatisticsPhysics, and Geology with 100 marks each.

The IIT Jam exam is a computer-based test (CBT). It consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is for admission to M.Sc. programmes, while Paper 2 is for admission to M.Sc.-Ph.D dual degree programmes.

The duration of the IIT Jam exam is 3 hours for each paper. Question paper will be on English .Each paper has 60 questions, divided into three sections: Section A, Section B and Section C. Sections A and B have 20 questions each, while Section C has 20 questions in total but only 10 are to be attempted.

The IIT Jam exam is held at various centres (approx 109 )across India. There will be 3000 (approx) total number of seats this year. IIT Jam result is scheduled to be declared on March 22,2023.

eligibility criteria for the IIT JAM Exam

To be eligible for the IIT JAM Exam, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Mathematics from a recognized university. You must also have secured at least 55% marks in your qualifying examination. If you are a reserved category candidate, you will need to secure at least 50% marks in your qualifying examination. There is no age limit to appear in the exam.

How to prepare for the IIT JAM Exam?

The IIT JAM Exam is a competitive examination for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is held once every year.

IIT Jam Exam Pattern

IIT Jam Examination medium of question paper will be in English. All the seven test papers will be online computer based. The exam will be for 3 hours. All questions will be compulsory to answer. There will be three sections (A, B, and C ) for the entire paper and will carry of 100 marks for 60 questions. Section A will have a total of 30 MCQ( multiple choice questions), section B will have a total of 10 MSQ ( Multiple selection questions)  and section C will have a total of 20 NAT (numerical answer type) questions. There will be negative marking for wrong answers and zero marking for each not attempted question
